The State Pension is a regular payment from the Government that most people can claim when they reach State Pension age (SPA). Currently, you could receive a maximum of £9,110.40 a year (or £175.20 a week) providing you meet the requirements.
Under the previous law, the SPA was due to increase to 68 between 2044 and 2046.
Following a review, the Government has announced plans to make the changes sooner.

A summary:
- from October 6 2020, women born on or after 6 April 1953 and men born on or after 6 December 1953 will reach SPA on their 66th birthday.
- the SPA will further increase to 67 between 2034 and 2038 and, under current government plans, to 68 by 2039.
